Ryan Kent has been one of the most influential signings from the summer, and the Liverpool loanee has gone from strength to strength at Ibrox. There was no doubt in our mind that Rangers would look to pull off a permanent move for him and it is no surprise that Steven Gerrard has already started planning with Liverpool over a permanent switch for the winger to Glasgow.
The latest report from the Scottish Sun confirms that Steven Gerrard is set to open up talks with his former club over a longer deal for Kent. Director of Football, Mark Allen, recently revealed Rangers’ stance and hoped that their relationship with Liverpool would come in handy in pulling off a permanent deal. The winger signed an extension at Anfield in 2017, but it seems like the Bears are going to try everything in their means to lure him to Ibrox on a permanent basis.
Allen was quoted as saying,”He is familiar with the coaching staff, he’s worked with them before during his Liverpool career. We would certainly like to pursue what we do next with Ryan but that is a conversation we have to have with Liverpool.”
”He’s their player. We have a very good relationship with Liverpool and I think it is dialogue that will continue for the foreseeable future. I think they would be happy, I don’t want to speak for Liverpool, but I am sure they would be happy with the way that Ryan is settled.”
Signing the Liverpool loanee permanently would be a massive boost for the Gers and something in him says that he is just starting. Kent is still only 22 and with regular playing time, the English winger is going to improve further. He has all the raw ingredients which are needed of a winger and the only question mark was whether he would be able to produce any final product.
Some part of that was answered against Celtic in the Old Firm derby as he kept his composure well to pick out Ryan Jack on the edge of the box after going on a good run and beating Mikael Lustig one on one. Also, Kent’s work rate has often been impressive and his intent to drive the ball forward makes him a dangerous player in the final third.
Given what Liverpool are trying to achieve and the heights which they have hit in the last one and a half year, Kent is going to find it tough to get into their lineup. With a good offer, we think Jurgen Klopp would sanction a move for him. With Gerrard at the helm at Rangers, the Bears definitely stand a good chance to land Kent in the future.
