Tottenham Hotspur won a hard-fought contest against Chelsea in their own backyard as Harry Kane scored the only goal of the match to win it for his side in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg. The Englishman was brought down in the box by Kepa Arrizabalaga as VAR was referred to adjudicate the penalty in the north London club’s favour in the first half. Kane did not make any mistake in slotting the ball past the Spanish keeper and got his side over the line against their west London rivals.
The Blues pressed well in the second half, but their efforts ultimately proved futile on the night.
Here is how the Tottenham Hotspur players were rated in their narrow win against Chelsea.
Paulo Gazzaniga: 7
Did a good job throughout the match to keep his side in the match.
Kieran Trippier: 6
Did well with his darting runs and superb crosses into the Chelsea box. Lacked a bit defensively though.
Davinson Sanchez: 7
Fabulous job by the Colombian to keep Eden Hazard quiet throughout the match. Picked up a yellow card in the process.
Toby Alderweireld: 6
Equally useful as his partner in the heart of the backline. Lacked a bit of composure in the second half though.
Danny Rose: 6
Dished out a decent display down the left-hand side.
Harry Winks: 7
Good solid defensive display from the Englishman to deny the opposition players from creating too many chances.
Moussa Sissoko: 6
Looked solid in the first half. His touches let him down in the second half though.
Christian Eriksen: 7
Dished out another solid display in the midfield to get his side over the line.
Dele Alli: 6
Looked a bit off colour on occasions and was bogged down by Rudiger. Deceived the opposition players with his classy footwork on a few occasions though.
Heung Min Son: 6
Found some space in the first half just outside the danger area but could not deliver the final shot. Was kept quiet in the second half by the Chelsea defence.
Harry Kane: 8
Made a number of brilliant runs and caused a lot of problems for the Chelsea defenders with his sublime touches on the ball. Won the penalty for his side and slotted it past Arrizabalaga in the coolest way possible.
