A few days ago reports from Sky Sports did the round that Leeds United were interested in Portsmouth winger Jamal Lowe who has enjoyed a good season with the Pompey having scored 11 goals so far. Along with the Whites; Nottingham Forest, Middlesbrough and West Brom were interested in a move for him.
However, after the latest interview from Portsmouth manager, the chasing sides have been dealt a blow as he indicated that they are under no pressure to sell their star man.
Pompey manager Kenny Jackett was quoted as saying (Hartlepool Mail), ”We’ll deal with it as and when it happens. It is part of the transfer window, particularly at clubs who are doing well because the next level have probably got eyes on picking you off. Financially above me, it’s a very well structured club. There isn’t any pressure on me to sell players other than for football reasons, which is good.”
Lowe will be a welcome addition to Bielsa’s squad as his pace and desire to make things happen can make a huge difference in the final third. The 24-year-old is a right winger and is currently the top scorer for his side in League One. As a result, Portsmouth are well placed to return to the Championship by next season as they sit on top of the table.
Bielsa had earlier given a clear indication (Leeds Live) that the club needs a winger as Pablo Hernandez has been shifted to play in more central areas ever since the departure of Samuel Saiz. Lowe’s form has been terrific, and he should suit United’s dynamic playing style. The Whites need to add that creative spark in the final third as they often depend too heavily on Pablo Hernandez.
Lowe has that sense of directness to his game as he always looks to drive the ball forward. The winger can be used on either of the flanks so that should also come in handy for Bielsa. Currently, the likes of Ezgjan Alioksi and Jack Harrison are struggling to produce the goods from the wide regions, and a winger should be a priority this month. In such a scenario, Bielsa should try to get a deal done for Lowe.
However, the Pompey look confident of keeping their man, but a move to Elland Road should attract the 24-year-old as he can be part of a Premier League side by the next six months as the Whites are well placed to move to the English top flight. But, Portsmouth too would be keen to hold on to him as they themselves are looking for promotion back to the Championship.
