Dundee midfielder Glen Kamara has already signed a pre-contract agreement with Rangers, and latest reports from the Scottish Sun indicates that the Dee are willing to send him away this month so that they can make some money out of this deal.
The former Arsenal midfielder is set to join Rangers in the summer, but Steven Gerrard should think about getting him in January if Dundee are keen on it. It could all come down to what they demand for the Finnish midfielder. We believe they are likely to ask a nominal fee and in that case, Gerrard should probably agree on a deal for Kamara to get him in January.
Rangers are in a tight title race with Celtic, and someone like Kamara could come in handy as the season goes on. The Gers started with a decent set of midfielders, but they have already lost the services of Ovie Ejaria. Also, Lassana Coulibaly has been in woeful form for quite some time now.
The Gers will need every ounce of their capabilities and squad depth to stop Celtic from winning their 8th title in a row. In such a scenario, Kamara as a defensive shield in midfield could be very useful for Gerrard.
The Finland international is strong in his challenges and can play in different roles in midfield when required. The 23-year-old can sit back and play as a defensive midfielder or in a more box to box role. The signing of Kamara also doesn’t bode well for Coulibaly as we would not be wrong in speculating that the Gers won’t make a permanent move for him after his deal expires in the summer.
Rangers should probably target a creative midfielder now as they have often struggled to open up defences when the opposition tries to sit back and defend in numbers. Kamara was tried in that role for Dundee by manager Jim McIntyre where he played in an advanced position, but the Finnish midfielder struggled to come up with the goods.
As a result, he struggled for game time this season ever since there has been a change of manager with Dundee. The manager is already destined to lose him so it might not be a bad ploy from the Dee to get some cash in January which they can use to bolster their squad.
The move is likely to come down to what figure the Dee demands. If the club management and Gerrard feel that it is within their range, then the club should go ahead and seal the deal for Kamara in January itself.
