According to a recent report by Foot Mercato, Manchester United are lining up a surprise move to secure the signature of Dalian Yifang winger Yannick Carrasco. The same report has also stated that the Belgian is eager to make a move back to Europe and the Red Devils are ready to offer him an escape route from playing football in the Chinese Super League less than a year since his move to China.
The 25-year-old talent enjoyed a fine campaign last term when he made 25 appearances in the Chinese Super League, scoring seven goals while grabbing nine assists. However, the situation has changed recently, and Carrasco is now weighing up his options for the future with Foot Mercato claiming that AC Milan are also interested in acquiring him.
The Belgian midfielder made a name for himself during his time with Atletico Madrid where he won the UEFA Europa League under the expert leadership of Diego Simeone. However, his career has gotten a bit off track since then, so it makes a lot of sense for the Ixelles born talent to seek a move back to familiar surroundings in January.
On his day, Carrasco can be a match-winner due to his incredible pace and dribbling ability with the ball at his feet down the flanks. The Belgian is also quite versatile and can play anywhere across the frontline, although, he primarily operates as a left winger.
The addition of someone of Carrasco’s talents will undoubtedly be a game changer for United in their quest to attain a top 4 spot at the end of this campaign. Having said that, the Reds of Manchester already have a plethora of options out in the wide areas such as Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Alexis Sanchez, Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard and Andreas Pereira. Hence, Woodward is better off spending the cash to strengthen other areas of Solskjær’s squad.
The Mancunian giants should instead concentrate on bringing in a quality defender during this window as that is an area which has troubled United in recent months. The Red Devils have shipped in 32 goals in 21 league matches which is simply not good enough for a team having UEFA Champions League aspirations.
