According to the recent odds released by the bookmakers, as mentioned in the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are leading the chase to secure the services of Christian Eriksen from Tottenham Hotspur.
The same report states that in a recent interview, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino revealed that the Danish midfielder was hesitant about penning a contract extension with the North London club which has seen United be listed as 6/1 favourites to bring him to Old Trafford.
The 26-year-old talent has been enjoying a rich vein of form for Spurs this season and has already put in some classy displays in midfield during this campaign which has helped his team stay in touch with Liverpool and Manchester City as part of the Premier League title race. Eriksen has made 25 appearances for Tottenham this term, scoring six goals while grabbing nine assists in all competitions.
He is also vastly experienced at the international level, having secured 85 international caps for the Danish national team and scoring 25 goals for his country so far. Eriksen can be considered as one of the best creative midfielders in the Premier League which is why it makes a lot of sense for a club like Man United to be among the top contenders for his signature.
The Middelfart-born talent has terrific ball control and an incredible passing range. He often assumes the role of a playmaker who starts the attacks for Spurs in the opposition half and is also not shy of scoring himself as evidenced by his excellent record this season. Eriksen doesn’t have any weaknesses to his game as such which makes him one of the best midfielders in European football.
The addition of the Dane would undoubtedly bolster United’s midfield options at Old Trafford and add a lot of competition for places within Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s squad. He is precisely the kind of talent that the Man United team is currently lacking. One of the main problems for the Red Devils this term has been the lack of creativity and invention from midfield when Paul Pogba or Juan Mata are not playing well so the Dane could be an ideal option to solve those issues.
There is no doubt that Eriksen will add some much-needed quality to this United squad which is why Ed Woodward should go all out in pursuit of the Danish playmaker’s signature in the near future.
