It was a hard-fought affair at the London Stadium as West Ham United came back from two goals down to clinch a 2-2 draw against Brighton and Hove Albion. After a lacklustre first half, the Seagulls struck twice in quick succession via Dale Stephens and Lewis Dunk to take the lead. However, Manuel Pellegrini’s tactical genius once again proved to be the saviour for the Hammers as he brought on Mark Noble and Michail Antonio and the duo provided the assists for Marko Arnautovic. The Austrian striker scored both the goals for his side and rescued a point from the contest which could have gone to either team.
Here is how the West Ham United players were rated from their hard-fought draw against Brighton.
Lukasz Fabianski: 6
Had a quiet first half. Made some good saves in the second half. Had nothing much to do in case of either of the goals.
Pablo Zabaleta: 6
Was a bit subdued in front of the Brighton attack in the second half after having a composed first 45 minutes.
Angelo Ogbonna: 5
Another disappointing outing for the Italian as he failed to keep the opposition attackers at bay.
Issa Diop: 6
Showed some early resistance but lacked the composure to keep his side out of harm’s way for most of the match.
Aaron Cresswell: 5
Could not really put pressure on the opposition.
Declan Rice: 6
Not the best outing for the Irishman as he threaded a number of passes in midfield but could not build attacks from the middle of the pitch.
Pedro Obiang: 5
Nothing worth mentioning from the Spaniard throughout the match. Was substituted in the second half.
Robert Snodgrass: 5
Was bogged down by the young defender Bernardo quite a few times that brought out his frustration. Was taken off in the second half.
Felipe Anderson: 6
Tried his best to get the ball into the danger area on a number of occasions but failed to impose any serious threat.
Andy Carroll: 5
Took a few knocks from the likes of Lewis Dunk and Shane Duffy. Left the field with a bleeding eyebrow only to find himself substituted at halftime.
Marko Arnautovic: 8
Looked sharp from the word go. Did not get much assistance from the midfield in the first half. Came to his true self in the second and scored two goals to snatch a point for his side.
Substitutes
Lucas Perez: 5
Ineffective throughout the second half after coming on for Carroll.
Mark Noble: 7
Brilliant substitution from Pellegrini as he went up and down the pitch to open up spaces with his intelligent passing. Threaded a number of beautiful balls into the danger area and set up Arnautovic for his first of the match. His inch-perfect long ball initiated the darting run from Antonio which was converted into the second by the Austrian.
Michail Antonio: 7
Looked like a constant threat whenever he had the ball. Laid down a superb pass for Arnautovic who made no mistake in scoring his second. Should have won the match after deceiving Gaetan Bong but hit the ball way over the post.
