Arsenal were taken to the sword by Liverpool, as the Reds handed Emery’s men a 5-1 thrashing. Ainsley Maitland-Niles gave Unai Emery’s side the lead, but it was all downhill from there. Roberto Firmino scored a hat-trick while Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane notched up one goal apiece for the Reds.
Here is how the Arsenal players were rated in their crushing defeat against Liverpool.
Bernd Leno: 4
A nightmare of an outing for the German international as he conceded five against Liverpool. Could have done nothing in any of the goals.
Stephan Lichtsteiner: 2
Really bad defending on show from the experienced campaigner as he gave away the ball on a number of occasions and showed no resistance against the Liverpool attack.
Sokratis Papastathopoulos: 4
Not much on offer from the Greek as well as he could not cope up with the pace and guile of Firmino.
Shkodran Mustafi: 4
Was rightfully substituted at half-time.
Sead Kolasinac: 5
Tried to get a few balls in the danger area but was mostly busy defending.
Lucas Torreira: 6
Had a hard time in midfield coping with the physicality of Fabinho and Georginio Wijnaldum. Fought valiantly for the ball though.
Granit Xhaka: 5
Could not keep pace with the likes of Firmino and Shaqiri and committed a few fouls in midfield.
Alex Iwobi: 6
His physicality came handy in the early stages of the match as he delivered an inch-perfect cross to set up Maitland-Niles in front of the goal. Was ineffective for most of the match though.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles: 6
Opened the scoring with a witty finish. Looked to attack whenever the ball was at his feet but the Liverpool defence proved to be too good for his bag of tricks.
Aaron Ramsey: 5
Could not do much as Fabinho got the better of him on most occasions.
Pierre-Emerick Aubmeyang: 5
Was kept quiet throughout the match by Van Dijk.
Substitutes
Laurent Koscielny: 5
Tried to restore some resistance in the backline and did well to some extent as the Gunners gave away only one goal in the second half after a massacre in the first.
Alexandre Lacazette: 4
Was ineffective in whatever time he had on the pitch.
Matteo Guendouzi: NA
Played too little to warrant a rating.
