Tottenham Hotspur entertained Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier today looking to continue their good form in the Premier League. Spurs dominated possession early on and made the crucial breakthrough in the 22nd minute through Harry Kane’s thunderous left-footed finish from long range. However, the away team came back into the contest but could not find an equaliser before half-time.
The second half was a bit different with Wolves pushing on in search of an equaliser. They finally managed to find the back of the Spurs net when Willy Boly rose above everyone to fire home a goal from a corner. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side completed the comeback through Raul Jimenez’s smart finish in the 83rd minute. Helder Costa put the icing on the cake for Wolves when he scored just four minutes later to cap off an excellent 3-1 win at Wembley Stadium.
Let’s take a look at how each Spurs player performed during the match against Wolves.
GK: Hugo Lloris – 5/10
The French keeper could not do much about any of Wolves’ three goals on the day which will disappoint him.
RB: Kieran Trippier – 4.5/10
The English right-back was a good outlet for Spurs in the first half but his impact on the game faded in the second. He also found it difficult coping with Jonny Otto’s threat late in the game and got exposed on quite a few occasions.
CB: Davinson Sánchez – 6.5/10
The Colombian centre-back won a lot of headers during the game. However, he failed to deal with the aerial threat of Boly during a second-half corner which handed Wolves a way back into the game.
CB: Toby Alderweireld – 5.5/10
The Belgian bossed the game in the first half but was poor after the half-time break. He was beaten too easily by Ivan Cavaleiro time and time again. Alderweireld found it hard dealing with the quick movement of the Wolves attackers.
LB: Ben Davies – 5/10
He could have conceded a penalty when the ball struck his arm early in the second half. Adama Traore got the better of him throughout the game much to the enjoyment of the away supporters.
CM: Harry Winks – 6/10
The English youngster worked hard for his team in midfield but lacked the cutting edge going forward.
CM: Moussa Sissoko – 6/10
The French midfielder was full of energy but didn’t show enough creativity in the opposition half.
CM: Dele Alli – 5/10
Not the best game from the former Milton Keynes talent. He hardly provided any service for the front players and was not able to be a significant threat inside the opposition box.
CM: Christian Eriksen – 5/10
The Danish star could have scored with his long-range curler in the first half. However, he was a mere spectator in the second half as he failed to get himself involved when Wolves were dominating possession.
ST: Heung-Min Son – 5/10
The South-Korean international made some good runs off the ball and tried to link up with Kane in the final third. However, nothing was coming off for him during the encounter.
ST: Harry Kane – 7/10
The English international scored a world-class goal in the first half and was Mauricio Pochettino’s biggest threat going forward.
Substitutes:
CAM: Lucas Moura – 5/10
The Brazilian speedster was not able to make an impact in the game after coming off the bench.
