According to a recent report by the Daily Mail, Manchester City winger Brahim Diaz is inching closer towards a switch to Real Madrid in a deal reportedly worth in excess of £15m. The same report has also stated that the Spanish talent will part ways with the Citizens after being left frustrated with the lack of first-team opportunities under Pep Guardiola this season.
The Spanish sensation has already put in some impressive performances for City during this campaign. He found the back of the net twice against Fulham in the League Cup, and his incredible match-winning contributions did not go unnoticed by the Galacticos chiefs.
The Citizens wonderkid started his playing career with Malaga before gaining some valuable game time in the youth ranks of his boyhood club. He graduated from the Malaga academy prior to sealing a move to England to play for the Blues of Manchester back in 2014.
Diaz has made four appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side this term and has scored two goals across all competitions so far. However, he has not been able to establish himself in the Citizens’ starting XI as Guardiola has preferred to opt for the services of Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling, David Silva, Riyad Mahrez, and Bernardo Silva over him.
The City starlet has blistering pace and has outstanding ball control which helps him breeze past his marker in the final third of the pitch. Diaz is technically blessed and has already shown some glimpses of his real potential in recent months. He would be a terrific coup for Los Blancos if they can get this deal over the line next month.
As for the Citizens, they would be losing a talented youngster who could have been a future star at the Etihad Stadium. Guardiola has proven in the past that he can get the best out of his young players as evidenced by the rapid rise of Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling, and Gabriel Jesus to name a few, over the past few years.
There is no doubt that Diaz’s departure will be a massive blow for the Citizens and their long-term plans to establish a sustained period of success at the blue half of Manchester. However, as long as they can spend the money generated from his sale wisely in the transfer market, they shouldn’t have any problems competing for trophies in the short-term.
