According to a recent report by the Metro, Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri is eager to retain the services of Cesc Fabregas as he reckons that it would be a huge problem if the Spaniard parted ways with the West London outfit. The same report has also stated that the midfield veteran has been left frustrated with the lack of game time under Sarri this season and wants to make a switch away from Stamford Bridge with a number of teams interested in acquiring his services.
He has fallen behind the pecking order at Chelsea and has lost his place in the first-team to the likes of Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic, Ross Barkley, N’Golo Kante, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek who have all been preferred ahead of him so far this term. In a recent interview mentioned in the Metro, the Chelsea boss said, ‘In this position we have only two players, Jorginho and Fabregas, so for me it would be really a problem without Cesc.
‘I want him to stay, I don’t know the final decision of Cesc and the club of course.
‘But for me it’s very important and if Cesc will go I think that we need to buy another player, and it’s not easy because, technically, Cesc is a very important player.
‘And I think that in the market it’s very difficult to find a player with his characteristics.’
Fabregas has made 14 appearances for the Pensioners this season, scoring one goal while creating two assists across all competitions. He has mostly been used in the cup competitions and has been subjected to just 153 minutes of Premier League football during this campaign.
The Spanish talent still has a lot to offer on the pitch as evidenced by some classy displays from him throughout this season. He is a terrific passer of the ball and can open up any defence with his incredible vision while operating in a deep-lying, holding midfield role.
Hence, it is no surprise that Sarri wants Fabregas to stay at Stamford Bridge for the time being as he is simply irreplaceable unless the club is willing to spend big on a quality back-up for Jorginho.
The Spaniard has quietly gone about his business at the centre of the park and is a hallmark of a good professional despite being left out during high-profile matches this season. He is also a fantastic leader in the Chelsea dressing room which is why Sarri should do everything in his power to hang on to him for the near future.
