According to a recent report by talkSPORT, Liverpool left-back Alberto Moreno wants to make a switch away from Anfield after being left frustrated with the lack of first-team opportunities under Jurgen Klopp this season. The Spaniard suffered an ankle injury last December and reckons that he should have gotten more first-team chances at Merseyside which could have helped him get his Liverpool career back on track.
However, the excellent form of Andrew Robertson has kept him out of Klopp’s starting XI, and he has found it difficult to break into the Reds senior side since then. In a recent interview with Cadena Ser (translated via Football Espana), the Spanish full-back addressed his situation at Anfield and said, “I do not feel good, that is the truth.
“I hurt myself giving everything for this team and I think that when I came back from injury, I deserved an opportunity.
“The situation is normal for a lot of players but simply I did not like the way he [Jurgen Klopp] has treated me, you can say that.
“Moving back to Spain is something I have thought about, I am tired of the cold here but I do not know about interests from other clubs.
“I am in my fifth year here, there is no agreement on a renewal and in January I am free to listen to any offer.”
The 26-year-old has just made four appearances for Liverpool this term and has flattered to deceive with most of his performances at left-back so far. However, he has earned four international caps for the Spanish national team during his career which is no easy feat.
Moreno has found life hard at Merseyside since his arrival from Sevilla in the summer of 2014. There was a lot of hype surrounding his arrival but he has crumbled under pressure, more often than not, as he made some unfortunate errors in defence during high-profile matches over the past couple of years.
It’s high time that Klopp parted ways with him as he is obviously not enjoying playing a bit part role at Anfield. The departure of the Spaniard won’t affect the Liverpool first-team at all but it might deplete the Reds’ squad depth. Hence, Klopp should use the money generated from his potential sale to bring in a suitable replacement who can give Robertson a run for his money in the race to secure the left-back berth at Anfield.
