Manchester United will entertain Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Sunday evening looking to continue their recent resurgence under Ole Gunnar Solskjær. The Red Devils have won two successive league matches and are outside contenders to finish in the top 4. However, they will come up against a wounded Bournemouth side who conceded five goals versus Tottenham Hotspur in midweek.
Solskjær will line up his side in a 4-3-3 formation so that United can have more firepower up top to break down the Cherries’ defence.
4-3-3 Manchester United Predicted Lineup To Face Bournemouth
Defence
David De Gea will continue in goal for the Red Devils for this home clash against the Cherries. The Spanish goalie pulled off an outstanding save against Huddersfield Town on Boxing Day, but it was not enough to ensure a clean sheet at the back. He will hope for a bit more protection from his defenders so that he can keep a shut-out against Bournemouth this weekend.
The defensive pairing of Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof could be unleashed at the heart of the Man United defence as Chris Smalling will be unavailable due to injury. Ashley Young should return and get another opportunity at right-back while Luke Shaw resumes his full-back duties on the other side of Solskjær’s backline.
Marcos Rojo will be in a race against time to be fit for this clash against Eddie Howe’s men on Sunday.
Midfield
The United interim boss might opt to stick with his strongest midfield trio of Paul Pogba, Ander Herrera and Nemanja Matic as all three of them have performed well over the past two matches in the league. The Mancunian giants are slowly returning to form and will have another excellent opportunity to put points on the board as they look to crawl back into the top 4 race over the coming weeks.
Marouane Fellaini will be part of Solskjær’s bench and might come on during the match if needed.
Attack
The Red Devils could opt for the front three of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard after they impressed against Cardiff City last weekend. Martial was not part of the United squad in midweek, so he is expected to come back into Solskjær’s first-team for this weekend’s encounter against the Cherries.
Both Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez can be ruled out of this contest due to injury.
