Wolves have shown that they belong in the Premier League as they have gone toe to toe with some of the top sides so far. However, they would have their task cut out when they travel to the Wembley Stadium to take on Tottenham Hotspur next who have scored a whopping 11 goals in their last 2 Premier League encounters. Wolves have shown that against the big teams, they can hold their own as they managed to take points against the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City.
Nuno Santo would be disappointed that they weren’t able to beat bottom-placed Fulham midweek, but they can earn some major plaudits if they manage to stop Spurs’ juggernaut which has seen them move to the second spot recently.
Team News
Diogo Jota is the only significant doubt for this tie as he is struggling with a hamstring injury. Apart from that, Santo has a full squad to choose from here.
Wolves predicted lineup Vs Tottenham Hotspur
Formation (3-4-1-2)
Defence
Portugal international Rui Patricio is set to start in between the sticks for the away side. He is going to be shielded by a back three. Conor Coady is set to start in the middle given his composure on the ball and ability to pick out a pass from deep areas. Ryan Bennett has established himself at the back, and he is set to start in the right-sided centre-back role. Summer signing Willy Boly is expected to start down the left.
Midfield
Jonny Castro is going to be in a wing back role down the left. Wolves are likely to have a tough time defensively so Castro might have to drop deep often to help out his defenders. Matt Doherty would be in a similar role down the right. Ruben Neves wasn’t part of the starting eleven in the last game, so we expect him to make a comeback in this tie. Joao Moutinho might have to move out from the first eleven and Romain Saiss should partner Neves in midfield. Saiss rescued a point in the last game against Fulham as he scored a late equaliser.
Mogan Gibbs White is going to play in the hole behind the front two, and the youngster has been like a breath of fresh air so far this season.
Attack
On loan striker, Raul Jimenez is a nailed on starter up front. The Mexican international has managed five goals this season, and he has linked up play well. Helder Costa is well suited to play games like these as his pace can be threatening on the counter. He is likely to partner Jimenez up front.
