Arsenal clashed heads with Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium earlier this evening looking to claim all three points from the contest. The Gunners began the match with a lot of attacking intent and made the breakthrough in the 7th minute through Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s brilliant finish. However, the Seagulls came up with a response just 10 minutes before half-time courtesy of Jurgen Locadia’s finish from close range.
Both teams fought hard in the second half but couldn’t add to their goal tally as the match finished 1-1 with both sides sharing the spoils.
Let’s take a look at how each Arsenal player performed during the match against the Seagulls.
GK: Bernd Leno – 5/10
The German keeper failed to regain his composure in the lead-up to Brighton’s equaliser when he came off his lines but couldn’t stop Locadia who ran past him and finished into an empty net.
RB: Stephan Lichtsteiner – 4/10
His weak header in the 35th minute allowed the Seagulls to launch a counter and find a way back into the contest. It was a poor performance from one of the most experienced players in Unai Emery’s dressing room.
CB: Sokratis Papastathopoulos – 6/10
The Greek defender commanded his own box well and managed to neutralise the threat of Glenn Murray who couldn’t get a sniff at goal.
CB: Laurent Koscielny – 6/10
It was a good performance from the French defender. He is slowly getting his sharpness back and could have a decisive part to play in the coming months.
LB: Sead Kolasinac – 6/10
He defended well inside his own half but was not able to get himself involved in the attacking third of the pitch.
CM: Granit Xhaka – 7/10
The Swiss international looked like a class act in midfield. He performed well in the first half, but his impact on the game faded as the match went on.
CM: Lucas Torreira – 5.5/10
The Uruguayan midfielder found it tough playing in a different position to what he is accustomed to in midfield, and it showed during his performance on the pitch.
CM: Matteo Guendouzi – 5/10
The French youngster started the match well, but he totally fell apart after the Seagulls equalised. He will be hoping for better days in an Arsenal shirt.
CAM: Mesut Özil – 5/10
The German sensation played a significant part in the lead-up to Arsenal’s opening goal of the match, but his refusal to track runs from midfield let Brighton back into the contest.
ST: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – 6/10
The Gabon forward produced a magical finish in the 7th minute to give his team the lead. However, he was also guilty of squandering a golden chance during the game which would disappoint him.
ST: Alexandre Lacazette – 7/10
The French striker worked hard for his side and set up Aubameyang perfectly in the lead up to his side’s only goal of the evening.
Substitutes:
LM: Alex Iwobi – 5/10
His impact on the pitch was minimal after he came on to replace Ozil at half-time.
CM: Aaron Ramsey – 6/10
The Welsh midfielder worked hard for his team after coming off the bench but lacked the cutting edge in the final third.
RM: Ainsley Maitland-Niles – 5/10
The Gunners winger didn’t show enough going forward during his time on the pitch.
