According to a recent report by Marca, Real Madrid are exploring the possibility of making a move for Lyon midfielder Nabil Fekir during the January transfer window. The same report has revealed that the Galacticos want to bolster their attack and have identified Fekir as an ideal candidate to play in an advanced role in midfield alongside Luka Modric.
The French talent’s current contract with Lyon is set to run out in the summer of 2020. However, the 25-year-old has declined to extend his deal with the Ligue 1 giants which has left the club’s president, Jean-Michel Aulas sweating on the future of his star player. Marca reports that it is quite likely that the French outfit will be forced to part ways with their prized asset, either next month or at the end of this campaign.
The Lyon-born speedster came through the youth ranks of his boyhood club and has now become one of the most integral members of Bruno Génésio’s first-team.
He has put in some dazzling displays over the past couple of years at the Groupama Stadium and could now be ready to make a switch to one of the elite clubs in European football.
The French sensation has incredible pace and is a very useful dribbler with the ball at his feet. The Lyon prospect primarily operates in the number 10 position, and he is not afraid to take on his marker in a 1v1 situation. Fekir has developed a knack for scoring and creating essential goals from midfield which makes him such an important asset for Lyon.
He would be a fantastic signing for Los Blancos as he will add a lot of quality to Santiago Solari’s midfield. However, he is yet to prove his worth at the highest level which could mean that it might take him some time to settle into life at the Spanish capital.
Fekir has scored seven goals and created four assists in 17 matches for the Ligue 1 team this season across multiple competitions. Although he is yet to hit the heights of the last campaign, yet we can expect him to be even more productive going forward if he manages to seal a move to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in the near future.
