According to a recent report by Rai Sport, as mentioned by Calciomercato, Juventus have turned down a bid reported to be in the region of €60m for their Brazilian talent, Douglas Costa. The same report goes on to reveal that the Turin-based team are not entirely convinced by the offer and are reluctant to let their prized asset leave during the January transfer window.
The 28-year-old has hardly featured in Massimiliano Allegri’s starting XI this season following a string of underwhelming performances in the Serie A so far. The Brazilian has lacked consistency on the pitch which is why he is not an integral member of the Juve squad anymore. Thus, it feels like the best option for the player would be to seek a move away from the Juventus Stadium during the winter transfer period.
The ex-Bayern Munich speedster needs to move on in search of more game time if he wants to reignite his career in European football. There is no doubt that United could benefit from having a player of Costa’s talents in their squad going into the second half of this campaign.
The Red Devils have had a nightmare season in the English top-flight so far and currently find themselves in the 6th place of the league table, a massive 19 points adrift of the league leaders, Liverpool going into the new year. Their new interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to bring in some reinforcements next month if he wants to make a late push for a top 4 spot in the coming months.
Costa is blessed with incredible pace and is a very talented dribbler with the ball at his feet. He has a lot of tricks up his sleeve and can also break away and find the back of the net when playing with confidence on the pitch. He will undoubtedly be a shrewd acquisition for Solskjaer if the Norwegian can somehow orchestrate a move to secure the services of the Brazilian sensation in January.
However, United already have the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Juan Mata who are all battling for a spot in Solskjaer’s starting XI. Hence, it makes no sense for them to sign Costa for a fee in excess of €60m next month.
