Liverpool will face off against Newcastle United at Anfield on Wednesday afternoon looking to stretch their lead at the top of the league standings. The Reds are enjoying a rich vein of form and are yet to be beaten in the Premier League this season. However, they will come up against their former manager Rafael Benitez who has a terrific recent record at Anfield as an opposition manager.
Jurgen Klopp is expected to opt for a 4-3-3 formation and might make a few changes to his midfield for the clash against the Magpies.
4-3-3 Liverpool Predicted Lineup To Face Newcastle United
Defence
Alisson Becker will start as the goalkeeper for the Reds after he kept another clean sheet away at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Friday night. Simon Mignolet will be on the Liverpool bench and play second-fiddle to the Brazilian shot-stopper as usual.
The defensive duo of Virgil Van Dijk and Dejan Lovren is expected to continue at the heart of Klopp’s defence in the absence of Joel Matip and Joe Gomez who would miss out due to injury.
Trent-Alexander Arnold is a major doubt for this game so Nathaniel Clyne could be used at right-back. Andrew Roberton will keep his place on the other side and will look to put in another strong shift down the left flank.
Liverpool are currently flying high in the Premier League, and most of their recent good form has been down to their stellar defensive displays which Klopp would hope his defenders can continue on Wednesday afternoon.
Midfield
The trio of James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum could feature at the centre of the pitch as they look to build some attacks in the opposition half. All three of them seems to be quite reliable in midfield so Klopp might opt for them and give the likes of Fabinho and Naby Keita some rest ahead of the busy schedule in the coming weeks.
Attack
There is no doubt that Liverpool’s front three comprised of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane have been underperforming in recent weeks but they have still managed to score the decisive goals which have helped the Reds build a four-point lead at the top of the table.
So they should continue to feature up top while Klopp has the options of calling upon Xherdan Shaqiri, Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi from the bench if needed.
