Liverpool are currently flying high in the Premier League and have won 15 of their 18 league matches so far this season which has put them at the top of the league table heading into Christmas. The Reds have earned a four-point lead over Manchester City with exactly half a season left to play in the English top-flight.
There have been a lot of success stories at Merseyside this season but one player everybody seems to have forgotten about is Dominic Solanke. The English forward has still not made a single first-team appearance for Liverpool this season with Jurgen Klopp opting for the likes of Roberto Firmino, Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi ahead of him. Moreover, the fact that Mohamed Salah has been deployed as a centre-forward up top hasn’t helped his cause.
The 21-year-old was a sporadic feature in Klopp’s senior team last season, but it seems like he has fallen way below the pecking order at Anfield and is now in dire need to make a switch away from Merseyside next month either on a temporary or a permanent basis. It is clear that he is not part of Klopp’s plans for the rest of this campaign so a move away could help him reignite his career.
Solanke is a complete centre-forward who has found the back of the net consistently for England at every youth level from Under-16 onwards. However, the Basingstoke born wonderkid has not been able to replicate the success of his youth career at the club level. He was only a squad player under Klopp last season and is now on the fringes at Anfield with his future uncertain going into the winter transfer window.
At 21, the former Chelsea starlet has incredible potential, but he needs to play football more regularly if he aims to establish himself as a first-team regular at the red half of Merseyside someday. For now, Solanke should concentrate on improving his game so leaving the Reds in January could be a wise move for him.
Solanke still might have a future at Liverpool as long as he is willing to work hard and go out on loan in order to gain more first-team experience and come back as a much-improved version of himself in a few years time.
