Arsenal secured another three points as they got the better of their opponents Burnley at the Emirates Stadium in their 18th Premier League match of the season. Pierre Emerick Aubameyang was in fantastic form this afternoon as the Gunners took the Clarets to the sword and beat them 3-1. While the Gabon international scored twice in the match, the final nail on Burnley’s coffin was delivered by Alex Iwobi.
The victory takes Unai Emery’s side at par with their London rivals Chelsea, who have played one game less than them and are set to take on Leicester City this evening (at the time this article was written). Here is how the Arsenal players were rated in their crucial win against Burnley.
Bernd Leno: 6
Made a few good saves throughout the match. Was unfortunate to see his clean sheet being spoilt by Ashley Barnes.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles: 6
Looked sharp on the attack but needs to get his defensive game in place.
Sokratis Papastathopoulos: 7
Kept the pressure on Ashley Barnes and got into a few tussles with him. Good performance overall from the Greek international.
Nacho Monreal: 5
Looked shaky at times in his new role as the central defender. Was substituted in the first half itself with an apparent injury.
Sead Kolasinac: 8
Tried to get the better of the opposition defence with his darting runs down the left-hand side. Was alert defensively as well. Provided a brilliant ball for Aubameyang to open the scoring.
Mohamed Elneny: 6
Looked to keep the ball possession high and pass it into the danger area. Lacked conviction with his interceptions.
Granit Xhaka: 7
His intelligent runs into the opposition half provided his teammates space to get the ball forward. Backtracking was top class as well.
Matteo Guendouzi: 6
Looked a bit shaky early on against the physical approach of the Burnley midfielders. Did well in the second half though.
Mesut Ozil: 8
His sublime skills were too good for the opposition defenders as they fouled him quite a few times throughout the match. Orchestrated the whole attack beautifully for the Gunners but the continuous tackling saw him lose a bit of breath in the later stages of the game.
Alexandre Lacazette: 7
Kept pressing from the word go and provided an intelligent assist for Aubameyang.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang: 9
Was in absolutely devastating form as he got the better of the opposition defenders and fired his team to victory with two exquisite strikes in either half.
Substitutes
Stephan Lichtsteiner: 6
Did well to provide defensive stability after he came on for Monreal. Could have done better to restrict Barnes from spoiling Leno’s clean sheet.
Lucas Torreira: 7
Solid as ever as he held the midfield together after coming for Elneny.
Alex Iwobi: 7
Notched up the final goal for his side from a deflected shot by Ozil. Added a lot of energy to the team with his pace and agility.
