According to a recent report by Calcio Mercato, Liverpool are lining up a mammoth offer (which is reported to be over €100m) to secure the services of Lorenzo Insigne from Napoli. The Daily Mirror had recently revealed that one of the United Kingdom bookmakers had slashed Liverpool’s odds of signing the Italian international in January from 10/1 to 7/1.
Insigne’s current deal with Napoli is set to run out in the summer of 2022 so the Serie A outfit will be under no pressure to sell. The 27-year-old has been enjoying an excellent run of form at Naples this season and has already made some match-winning contributions for his team so far.
The Frattamaggiore born talent has made 21 appearances for Carlo Ancelotti’s side this term, scoring ten goals while providing five assists in all competitions.
The Italian prospect has also secured 30 international caps for the Italian national side and has four goals to his name so far. At 27, he is currently playing at his peak, so it makes sense for him to move to a new club in search of some major silverware.
Liverpool are currently flying high in the Premier League and are still unbeaten having played 18 league matches so far. The Reds are sitting at the top of the league standings, but it has mainly been down to their stellar defence which has conceded just seven goals in 18 league games until now.
However, their forwards have often let them down with the likes of Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane struggling to be consistent with their performances this season. Hence the addition of Insigne will undoubtedly bolster Klopp’s attacking options at Anfield and add some much-needed competition for places up top.
The Napoli sensation is very versatile and can play in multiple positions across the frontline. He primarily plays as a left winger but is also quite capable of operating as a second striker in the final third. Insigne is very quick and agile in his style of play and has a knack for scoring and setting up important goals as evidenced by his excellent display against Paris Saint-Germain last month. His incredible versatility and outstanding talent make him an ideal fit for the Merseyside giants.
Klopp should consider making a move for Insigne next month as he will also free up space for Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Mane to get a breather from time to time.
