Liverpool have made a terrific start to their Premier League campaign and are now sitting at the top of the league table, just one point above Manchester City. The Reds have also made it through to the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League where they will face off against Bayern Munich in what looks set to be a mouth-watering Round of 16 fixture.
With so many players currently at Jurgen Klopp’s disposal, some of the deadwood needs to be moved on to make room for new players in the Liverpool squad. Moreover, selling unwanted players will also decrease the club’s wage bill which should keep the owners happy as well.
Here are three players Klopp should consider selling during the January transfer window.
Alberto Moreno
The Spaniard has failed to live up to the high expectations at Anfield and had lost his first-team place to Andrew Robertson last season. He is quite injury-prone and lacks the defensive qualities required to feature in Klopp’s starting XI. Even as a back-up, he doesn’t offer much on the pitch which is why Klopp should consider letting him go next month so that he can find a more capable back-up for Robertson.
Adam Lallana
The former Southampton playmaker has looked like a shell of his former self this season after being plagued with injuries throughout his Liverpool career so far. He has not been able to make the most out of the first-team chances that Klopp has handed him in recent times which goes on to show that the talented midfielder is currently on a decline. Lallana needs to switch clubs so that he can reignite his football career by earning regular minutes on the pitch.
Lazar Markovic
To the surprise of a lot of people, Markovic is still part of the Liverpool squad after he failed to secure a move away from Anfield last summer. He is currently on the fringes and is yet to make an appearance for Klopp’s side in this campaign.
It is clear that Klopp doesn’t fancy the Serbian youngster to turn things around at Merseyside so his departure in January could be a good move for all parties.
