Manchester United have released an official statement stating that they have parted ways with Jose Mourinho with immediate effect. In the club’s official website, the Red Devils have made a press release which read, “Manchester United announces that manager Jose Mourinho has left the club with immediate effect.
“The club would like to thank Jose for his work during his time at Manchester United and to wish him success in the future.
“A new caretaker manager will be appointed until the end of the current season, while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new, full-time manager.”
Mourinho took charge of 144 matches for Man United since his appointment in the summer of 2016 and left the club with a healthy record of 84 wins, 31 draws and 29 losses (stats taken from Transfermrkt). The Portuguese tactician managed to win the FA Community Shield, the League Cup and the UEFA Europa League in his first season at Old Trafford.
With Mourinho gone and Michael Carrick set to take over as the club’s interim boss for the time being, let’s take a look at three potential replacements for the United chiefs to consider at the end of this campaign.
Zinedine Zidane
The former Real Madrid manager is currently available and would be a fantastic fit at the red half of Manchester if United can convince him to take over next summer. The French legend managed to lead the Galacticos to three successive Champions League triumphs in the recent past, so his managerial C.V. speaks for itself. However, the jury is still out on whether he can be a success as a head coach for a club in the Premier League as he has never had any managerial experience outside of Spain.
Mauricio Pochettino
The Tottenham Hotspur boss can be considered as one of the best managers in the Premier League. His record at Spurs on a limited budget has been nothing short of exceptional over the past few years which indicates that he would be a great fit at Old Trafford.
Antonio Conte
The ex-Juventus boss is currently a free agent and is vastly experienced at the highest level in European football. He led Juve to three Serie A titles before joining Chelsea and winning the Premier League on his debut campaign. The Italian tactician has shown in the past that he can win trophies in England which is one of the main reasons why it would be a safe choice for United to opt for his services next summer.
