West Ham United are currently making a strong comeback from their dismal start in the Premier League this season, having won four matches on a trot to show for their efforts. The Hammers’ last win came against a lowly Fulham side, who were beaten 2-0 at Craven Cottage.
Manager Manuel Pellegrini, however, is well aware of the fact that his side have a long way to go this season. The primary concern for the Chilean gaffer has been the unavailability of key players like Manuel Lanzini, Andriy Yarmolenko and Jack Wilshere, who have been sidelined with injuries. Pellegrini should be determined to get out of this crisis and bring in new players to strengthen the midfield.
According to The Mirror, the West Ham United boss has his eyes on the Manchester United ace Andreas Pereira. The Brazilian midfielder has been one of the players who has endured a tough time at his current club and has been used as a bits and pieces player by Jose Mourinho.
Reportedly, the 22-year-old ace has refused to sign a new contract with the Red Devils and might be on his way to leaving Old Trafford next summer in search of a new club. The report also says that the east London club are ready to take advantage of the situation and bring the player to the London Stadium next season on loan.
Given the problems they are facing (especially in the midfield), Pereira could be a brilliant addition to Pellegrini’s lineup if they can land him. Though Declan Rice has come of age very quickly to stabilise the midfield for the Hammers, his partner and club captain Mark Noble is not getting any younger, and it is essential for the Chilean gaffer to find a viable replacement for the Englishman. This is where the Man United starlet comes into the picture.
Pereira is well known for his attacking capabilities and his ability to chip in with important goals from the midfield. He is also a versatile player and can put in a substantial shift as a central midfielder. The recently sacked Jose Mourinho used him in the heart of the midfield during the pre-season, and he had impressed with his ability to control the ball and build attacks from the midfield.
It will also be a good move from the player’s perspective as he will get more playing time and develop himself as an outstanding asset for his side. The 22-year-old midfield ace had a terrific 2017/18 season with Valencia (on loan) as he played a pivotal role to help the Bats finish the term among the top four clubs in the La Liga.
He should be able to replicate that form in the Premier League as well, and if West Ham United can provide him with the opportunity, it would be a win-win situation for both the club and the player.
