On 12th October 2016 Spanish outlet Diario Gol has made an absolute explosion with their report when they claimed that Real Madrid captain and defender Sergio Ramos can be the next player to leave the Bernabeu with President Florentino Perez being unhappy with his performances this season. It is claimed that at least 4 clubs are in the race for the defender and the names include PSG, Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Chelsea.
This is not the first time the defender is being linked with other clubs and especially an English club after his saga with Manchester United last summer. Ironically, the defender signed a new contract with improved terms last year ending the speculation of him joining Manchester United.
While it might seem almost weird to suggest that the Los Blancos would be parting with somebody like Ramos who has spent eleven years at the club making a total of 487 appearances in all competitions, there is a chance of a transfer based on the accusations made by the Spanish outlet that the president feels Ramos has relaxed since landing his new deal. Real Madrid have been ruthless with their legends in the past and they won’t hesitate to sell Ramos if the right offer comes through.
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has long been on the lookout for quality defenders and despite bringing in David Luiz in the summer for his second stint at the club but the move hasn’t worked according to plan.
The gulf in class was evident in the defeats against Liverpool and Arsenal and owner Roman Abramovich has made it clear that he won’t shy away from making more funds available for the manager to spend in the winter transfer window to get in the necessary reinforcements. A defender is high on the list and Sergio Ramos will be the kind of name which will give the fans and the players a lift if the club can manage to get his signature.
Having a vast experience and wonderful pedigree, Ramos will be the leader Chelsea need at the back while having played a large part of his career as a right back, he is one who can easily deputise in that area if the need arises giving his manager the tactical provision.
Having won 12 trophies at club level and back to back European Championships with the World Cup in between, there are few players in the game who has tasted success like the 30-year old and his winning mentality will be something that would help Chelsea turn things around in this difficult phase.
A move for Ramos will be outrageous but it will be worth it if the London club can get the deal done in their favour.
