Chelsea took on Vidi at the MOL Aréna Sóstó earlier this evening having already qualified into the knockout stages of the UEFA Europa League. The Pensioners began the match on the front foot and managed to take the lead in the 30th minute courtesy of Willian’s fantastic strike. However, it took Vidi less than two minutes to come up with an equaliser when Ethan Ampadu scored an unfortunate own goal with his head. Both teams went in level at half-time with nothing to split them.
The second half was also rich in entertainment as the home team took a shock lead on the night when Loic Nego unleashed a superb volley from 15 yards. However, the Pensioners refused to give up and came back into the contest through Olivier Giroud’s brilliant freekick in the 75th minute. The match ended 2-2 with both teams sharing the spoils.
Let’s take a look at how each Chelsea player fared during the match against Vidi.
GK: Willy Caballero – 6/10
The Argentine keeper couldn’t do much about the goals that Chelsea conceded on the night. However, he did pull off a world-class save in the first half.
RB: Davide Zappacosta – 4/10
It was a poor performance from the Chelsea right-back. He failed to make an impact going forward and was also caught out defensively on quite a few occasions during the match.
CB: Ethan Ampadu – 6.5/10
He remained calm under pressure and defended his own box well. Ampadu can consider himself unlucky for scoring an own goal which was his only mistake in an overall solid outing from him.
CB: Andreas Christensen – 6/10
He was a solid presence at the back in the first half and distributed the ball well for Chelsea during the game.
LB: Emerson Palmieri dos Santos – 6.5/10
The Chelsea left-back looked a real threat in the opposition half as he was always looking to link up with his teammates in the wide areas.
CM: Ross Barkley – 5/10
The English midfielder looked a bit off the pace in midfield and lacked the creativity required to open up the Vidi defence.
CM: Cesc Fàbregas – 7.5/10
The Spaniard was a class act in midfield despite starting the game a bit slowly. Once he got a chance to spread the long balls, there was no stopping Fabregas. He was always looking to create opportunities for the Chelsea attackers.
CM: Ruben Loftus-Cheek – 5.5/10
A rare poor showing by the Pensioners midfielder. His passes lacked accuracy while he was also sloppy in possession. However, he did work tirelessly for his team even though he was having an off night.
RM: Callum Hudson-Odoi – 8/10
The youngster was a menace for the Vidi defenders as he was always willing to take his marker on in a foot race. Hudson-Odoi managed to get behind the Vidi backline a number of times during the game and put in some dangerous crosses into the box. He was Maurizio Sarri’s biggest weapon going forward which is one of the main reasons why the Italian manager could now think about incorporating him into his first-team.
ST: Álvaro Morata – 5/10
The Spanish forward was average at best in the first half before he was substituted due to an injury.
LM: Willian – 7/10
He started the game a bit slow and was sloppy in possession at times. However, the Brazilian playmaker refused to give up and found the back of the net with a fabulous freekick in the first half.
Substitutes
LM: Pedro – 5/10
The Spanish winger failed to make an impact in the game after coming off the bench.
ST: Olivier Giroud – 7.5/10
The Frenchman came on to execute a stunning freekick which rescued Chelsea a point from the game.
