Manchester United will make a short journey to Merseyside to take on their arch rivals, Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday evening. The Red Devils suffered a disappointing loss against Valencia on Wednesday night but still managed to qualify from their group. However, the Mancunian giants have looked like an ordinary side throughout this campaign, and it’s high time they turned things around for the better.
This match versus the Merseyside outfit will serve as the perfect opportunity for them to kickstart their season and fight for a top 4 place in the Premier League. Mourinho will probably line up in a 4-3-3 formation and might make a number of changes to his side for this encounter at the red half of Liverpool.
4-3-3 Manchester United Predicted Lineup To Face Liverpool
Defence
David De Gea will resume his goalkeeping duties for this league encounter against Liverpool after he was rested in midweek when Valencia beat United. The Spanish goalie has already put in some match-winning displays this season but has also been guilty of making a few errors at the back, most notably in the match against Arsenal. He needs to have a good game if the Red Devils are to come away with a result from Anfield.
The duo of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones could feature in central defence with Victor Lindelof currently sidelined due to injury. Smalling is a significant doubt for this contest so if he fails to pass a late fitness test; then Eric Bailly will replace him in Mourinho’s starting XI. Diogo Dalot will get a chance to impress at right-back while Ashley Young would look to cope with the pace and trickery of Mohamed Salah on the other side of the Red Devils backline.
Luke Shaw is also a major worry for this encounter, but Mourinho might decide not to risk him this weekend, especially considering his grim history with injuries.
Midfield
Mourinho could opt for the midfield three of Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic and Ander Herrera as the trio can put in big performances against the top teams of Europe. Herrera has been in impressive form for the Red Devils of late, but Pogba and Matic have both flattered to deceive this season.
Marouane Fellaini will be part of the Man United bench and could come on during the game if needed.
Attack
The Mancunian giants could line up with the front three of Anthony Martial, Romelu Lukaku and Jesse Lingard. All three forwards have shown signs of promise in recent weeks, and they should get the nod to start on Sunday.
Marcus Rashford scored a consolation goal in midweek and could replace Martial if the Frenchman fails to recover from his injury. Juan Mata will also be on stand-up and could play some part in the game against Liverpool.
