According to a recent report by the Irish Sun, Norwich City are keeping tabs on the progress of Drogheda United midfielder William Hondermarck. However, the same report also claims that the Canaries will face stiff competition from Dundee United and Brentford in pursuit of the French youngster’s services.
The 18-year-old has put in some eye-catching displays in midfield for Drogheda United during this campaign which has caught the attention of Norwich boss Daniel Farke. The Sun has also revealed that there are ongoing talks between the two clubs with Drogheda willing to play the waiting game to generate more interest for their prized asset.
The Rapid Rise Of William Hondermarck
Hondermarck was born in Orleans, France and moved to the Republic of Ireland when he was just five-years-old. He began his youth career with Shelbourne FC before making a switch to Drogheda at the start of this calendar year.
At the tender of 18, the French starlet has managed to establish himself as a regular starter in Pete Mahon’s first-team and has already made ten appearances for the Irish outfit this season.
Hondermarck primarily operates in a box to box role but is versatile enough to play both as an attacking or a defensive midfielder for his team. Hence, it makes sense for the Canaries to recruit him as he has the potential to become a class act in midfield in the coming years.
The Norfolk outfit has made a fantastic start to their league campaign and are currently sitting pretty at the top of the EFL Championship table with a total tally of 43 points from 21 league matches. Daniel Farke is looking to build for the future, so it is no surprise that the Norwich boss wants to sign one of the most promising young players in Irish football.
Will The French Starlet Be The Correct Choice For The Canaries?
Hondermarck does not have the quality required to justify a regular starting berth at Carrow Road right now (duh!), but his potential acquisition will go a long way in improving Norwich’s squad depth as they look to challenge for the Championship title this season. To summarise, the French wonderkid will be an excellent choice for Farke as he aims to bring some success to Norwich at the end of this campaign.
