According to the reports in the Sun, young Irish forward Ali Reghba has joined Leicester City on trial. Last month, it was reported by the same media outlet that the forward was on trial with Middlesbrough and Leeds United were also said to be one of the interested parties in bringing the 18-year-old striker at Elland Road.
The youngster currently plies his trade with Irish outfit Bohemians FC, and he has impressed at the youth level. Reghba is currently an u-19 Ireland international and the fact that a Premier League club has shown an interest in him portrays the fact that he does have a decent amount of talent and abilities.
The forward joined the Bohs this March and seems destined for big things at the moment. Bohemians boss Keith Long is hopeful that his striker would stay on. However, a move to England should tempt the youngster.
Reghba scored a brace in his debut against Shamrock Rovers and has looked the part at the tender age of 18. He just seems to be a natural striker, and he gets alive in and around the box as he appears to possess excellent goal scoring instincts.
With former Premier League winner, Leicester City interested in him, Leeds United’s task looks cut out. However, it is clear that he would have been a signing for the future and in no way he would have had much impact on the current squad if the Whites were close to signing him.
However, the player should consider a move to Leeds given the number of opportunities young players are getting currently under Bielsa. For the Foxes, he might have to play for a few years in the development and reserve squad before being in line for a senior team experience. Whereas at United, he can break in the senior team much sooner given the current manager’s eagerness to work with young players.
It seems like the Whites are fighting a losing battle here as Middlesbrough and Leicester have both already brought him on a trial basis. As for now, we can’t say that failure to land him would be a big blow for the Whites. But if he goes on to impress in the Premier League in 5-6 years, then he could be a story of ‘what if’ for United in the years to come. Bielsa seems more keen on working with the current crop of players and academy products and missing out on Reghba won’t be a blow for the club at least in the short term.
