Bill Young of Rocksport Radio is reporting that Kilmarnock winger Jordan Jones is likely to move to Rangers in the future as he has entered the final year of his contract. However, he has added that it’s not yet clear whether the Gers would sign him in January or get him for free in the summer.
This is not the first time that the Bears have been linked with Jones as earlier this year in January, Rangers had a bid turned down (The Scottish Sun) for him. Even the player went on to talk about the transfer speculations and said that it was mental torture.
He was quoted as saying,”Yes, it does affect you. It is mental torture(transfer rumours), really. You are getting told a lot of things and trying to concentrate on football but it is draining. Through those two transfer windows were two of the worst times in my life. But you just have to get back to your football as quickly as possible and let that side of the game take care of itself.”
Jones is traditionally a left winger but can even play in a more central role in attacking areas of midfield. The Gers do have someone like Ryan Kent and Glenn Middleton who can currently play down the left wing but Kent is currently on loan and there is no guarantee that the Gers would be able to land him in the future.
However, Gerrard has indicated that he would like to sign Kent. Jamie Murphy who is currently out for the season with an injury is also going to be fighting for that place once he recovers so the Gers do have decent cover in the wide positions.
Maybe the manager is looking at him to play in a no.10 role. The Bears might sign a No. 10 in January as Gerrard indicated (The Scottish Sun) back in November. Jones joined the Killie in 2016 and has slowly established himself as an integral player in the attacking third of the pitch for Steve Clarke. The Northern Irish winger came up from Middlesbrough’s academy and was unable to break into their squad. But the 24-year-old has found his foot in Scotland.
Jones is a tricky winger and is always looking to play on the front foot by driving the ball forward. His direct style of play would suit the Rangers’ system as they build a lot of their moves from wide areas. The winger can be available for free next summer or even in January he is likely to come at a nominal price (our opinion). Therefore he can be a handy addition at Ibrox and we believe Gerrard should go in for him in the winter transfer window itself.
