According to a recent report by the Sun, Arsenal have joined the chase to secure the services of Wesley Moraes from Club Brugge. The report claims that the Gunners are lining up a £15m offer in January but would face stiff competition from Fiorentina and Valencia in pursuit of the Jupiler Pro League forward.
The Brazilian talent has been in fine form for the Belgian giants and has already put in some dazzling displays during this campaign. He has registered ten goals and grabbed four assists in 22 matches for Brugge this season which has caught the attention of the Gunners chiefs.
The Rise Of Wesley Moraes
The 22-year-old grew up playing football back in his homeland for Itabuna Esporte Clube before making a switch to Slovakia to play for AS Trenčín in the summer of 2015. Club Brugge decided to give him a chance at the start of 2016 after the Brazilian striker scored eight goals in 22 matches for the Slovak outfit.
Since his move to Belgium, Moraes has been able to take his game to the next level as he has now become one of the most prolific strikers in Europe.
What Does The Brazilian Offer On The Pitch?
Moraes is a great target man up top due to his aerial prowess. He can hold the ball up and get others into play using his remarkable strength inside the opposition penalty box. The Juiz de Fora born striker is also quite quick and agile for a big man and knows how to find the back of the net.
Is He The Right Choice For The Gunners?
The addition of the Brazilian forward would undoubtedly bolster Unai Emery’s attacking options at the Emirates Stadium. Moraes will add more competition for the likes of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and so the Arsenal forwards can motivate each other to strive for greatness at North London.
However, the fact that the Brazilian has still not proven his worth at the highest level would be a cause for concern against such a move. The 22-year-old might be ready to cope with the physical demands of English football but the jury is still out on whether he can handle the pressure and perform during high-profile matches inside a packed stadium in England. Hence, the Gunners are better off opting for more proven talent.
