According to a recent report by Derbyshire Live, Liverpool have no intention to activate a recall clause in Harry Wilson’s season-long loan contract at Derby County. The same report also reveals that the Rams manager Frank Lampard recently shed some light on the on-loan midfielder’s recall clause which the Reds could choose to trigger when the transfer window reopens in January.
In a recent interview mentioned in the Derby Telegraph, Frank Lampard said, “At the minute he’s our player, and of course we want him to stay our player for the course of the season because he is contributing. For me, he is here to progress, and he is progressing well,”
Derbyshire Live has also claimed that Jurgen Klopp’s side are not willing to end his loan spell early as they are quite happy with the Welsh midfielder’s development at Pride Park. Wilson has enjoyed a successful time in the English Championship and has already put in some match-winning displays for the East Midlands outfit this season.
His most notable contribution came at Old Trafford when the Rams came from behind to knock Manchester United out of the EFL Cup. Wilson scored from a fantastic free-kick which helped his side mount an unlikely comeback at the Theatre of Dreams where the Rams edged the Red Devils out on penalties.
Wilson has featured in 18 matches for the Rams this season, scoring eight goals while creating two assists across all competitions. At the mere age of 21, he has also managed to secure eight international caps for the Welsh national team and has two goals to his name for his country.
The Wrexham-born talent has a very promising future in English football and is currently progressing well under Frank Lampard. Hence, it makes no sense for the Reds to pull the plug on his season-long loan spell as he won’t be able to secure enough game time at Merseyside this season.
Jurgen Klopp has a lot of attacking options to call upon at Anfield with the likes of Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi, Adam Lallana, Xherdan Shaqiri and Dominic Solanke all fighting it out for a place in the Reds’ starting XI which usually features the trio of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah.
If Wilson can continue improving at Derby, then there might be a chance for him to prove himself under Klopp at Liverpool next season. So for now, letting the Welsh wonderkid continue his loan spell at East Midlands seems like a wise move for all parties.
