In a recent interview with UOL, Liverpool midfielder Fabinho revealed that he has no plans to make a switch away from Anfield. The Brazilian talent is settling into life in England and has found first-team opportunities hard to come by this season since completing a £43.7m move from AS Monaco earlier this year.
A report by French media outlet Lequipe claimed that the Reds prospect was on Paris Saint-Germain’s radar last month. However, the Brazilian wasted no time and has squashed all the speculation surrounding his future at Merseyside. In his interview with UOL, Fabinho said,
‘He [Jurgen Klopp] did not give a lot of explanations, but in training I talked so I would not be discouraged and concentrate on work, without lowering my head, [I knew] the opportunities could come in,’
He also added, ‘Now I just want to increase my number of games.
‘In the last few matches I’ve played more and I believe that playing a good role.
‘Since football is very intense here, I have to be very well prepared when the opportunity arises.
‘I was told there was something in the press, but I never said I would like to leave Liverpool.
‘I was aware that I needed to have the patience to wait for my moment.
‘I’m happy at Liverpool, there’s no reason for me to leave.’
The 25-year-old has featured in 10 matches for the Reds this season across all competitions but is yet to find the back of the net. With Liverpool set to embark upon a tough run of fixtures over the busy Christmas period, Fabinho would likely start more matches in Klopp’s first-team.
What Does Fabinho Offer On The Pitch?
The Brazilian talent has built a reputation for being a midfield destroyer as he often sits deep to disrupt opposition plays and win back possession for his team. He has a knack for making well-timed challenges and also can distribute the ball well.
Despite not being as effective in possession as some of his other midfield partners at Merseyside, the fact remains that Fabinho is the only defensive midfielder at Anfield who can play in a deep-lying, holding midfield role which adds more protection for the Liverpool backline.
Fabinho’s Desire To Stay: Big Boost For The Reds?
Fabinho’s commitment to stay and fight for his place in Klopp’s starting XI would undoubtedly be a massive boost for Liverpool as they look to compete on all fronts this season. He offers something which none of the other players can provide at Anfield so Klopp needs to be patient and concentrate on incorporating the Brazilian slowly into his first-team.
