24-year-old winger cum forward Pawel Cibcki is a forgotten name at Elland Road at the moment, and if latest reports from the Yorkshire Evening Post are to be believed, then the winger is going to be sold in the January window as he does not feature into Marcelo Bielsa’s plans this season.
The 2017 summer signing from Malmo never really got a chance to establish himself for the Whites, and he is deemed as surplus to requirements by Bielsa currently. The former Polish youth international, who later switched his allegiance to Sweden, made a bright start as he contributed with back to back assists in his first two league games, but could not continue this momentum later on which saw him making only ten appearances altogether in his debut season in the Championship.
It is believed that an MLS club is interested in him though it is not certain which club could that be. But if there is an offer for the winger, United wouldn’t have any qualms in parting ways with him in the January transfer window. The winger recently returned from his short-term loan spell from Norwegian club Molde, and it is unlikely that he would feature for the Whites during this busy festive period.
Though to be fair to the winger, he would feel slightly hard done by as Thomas Christiansen had earlier sidelined him. If Bielsa doesn’t see him playing a role, then it is probably the right decision from the club to let him leave. Plus the Argentine manager’s playing style and training regime require a proper pre-season and Cibicki wasn’t part of it. Therefore, it is highly likely that he won’t see playing time for as long he is at Elland Road.
However, someone like Mateusz Klich was also sidelined from the first team and has established himself now out of nowhere, but the Poland international was part of the preseason which allowed him to adapt to Bielsa’s style. Cibicki is predominantly a left winger but can play anywhere in the attacking half of the pitch. The Whites currently have the likes of Jack Clarke and Ezgjan Alioski for the left wing spot.
It would be interesting to see how much the Whites would get in the market by selling him. The West Yorkshire outfit signed him for £1.5m (The Sun), and the fact that he hasn’t played much means United won’t be able to demand too much for this Swedish winger. At the moment Cibicki’s career at Elland Road looks over, and the club should look to sell him to get him off the wage bill.
