According to a recent report by the Sun, Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil could make a move away from the Emirates Stadium next summer after being benched by Unai Emery in recent weeks. The same report has also claimed that Inter Milan could offer him with an escape route out of North London as they are one of the few clubs who could afford Ozil’s massive wage demands.
Some sources close to the German midfielder has revealed that Ozil will stay on until the end of this current campaign but might consider moving on in the summer.
If his situation with Emery doesn’t change for the better soon, then there is every reason for the German talent to plot a move away in search of more game time on the pitch. At 30, Ozil does not have the luxury of time in his hands, so he needs to play regularly as he is currently in the peak years of his career.
The former Werder Bremen star has made 12 appearances for the Gunners this season, scoring four goals while creating one assist in all competitions. He is vastly experienced in the Premier League and could still be a big part of Emery’s squad this season.
What Does Ozil Add To Emery’s Team?
Ozil has a knack for creating goals on a regular basis and is arguably Arsenal’s best playmaker at this moment. The German can unlock any defence with his inch-perfect passes, and he also chips in with his fair share of goals up top. However, his low defensive work-rate is a liability for the Gunners in high-profile matches which could be one of the main reasons why Emery is reluctant to hand him a regular starting berth at the Emirates this season.
Should Arsenal Part Ways With Him?
The potential departure of Ozil will be a big blow for the North London giants because of the quality he brings to the pitch. However, if the situation escalates between the player and the manager, then selling Ozil could be the only meaningful solution for Arsenal. The German’s exit will also benefit Emery’s chances of landing a marquee player as the club can finally get their highest earner off their wage bill.
Hence, we can conclude that if the current situation continues to escalate, then the Gunners should consider parting ways with Ozil next summer. This unfortunately seems to be the only sensible course of action at the moment.
