Manchester United will entertain Arsenal at the Old Trafford on Wednesday night after another lacklustre display against Southampton last weekend produced only a draw. The Red Devils have endured a difficult campaign under Jose Mourinho so far. The pressure is continuously mounting on the Portuguese manager, so they desperately need a positive result against the Gunners in midweek at what is expected to be another packed house at the Theatre of Dreams.
Mourinho will likely opt for a 4-3-3 formation and would be forced to make some changes to his side due to injuries to some of his key personnel.
4-3-3 Manchester United Predicted Lineup To Face Arsenal
Defence
David De Gea will resume his shot-stopping responsibilities for this midweek clash but would need to pull off another majestic display on Wednesday night as he will be up against the prolific Arsenal duo of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette. The Spanish goalie conceded two goals versus Southampton on Saturday which won’t fill him up with confidence going into this crucial encounter at the Old Trafford.
The defensive duo of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones will resume their partnership in central defence in the absence of the injured Victor Lindelof. Diogo Dalot might get a rare start in the Premier League at right-back while Ashley Young would look to use his experience on the other flank.
Luke Shaw is a major doubt for this clash as he is in danger of missing out due to an injury.
Midfield
Mourinho could opt for the midfield trio of Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic and Ander Herrera as he looks to liven things up at the middle of the pitch. Herrera has been impressive for the Red Devils of late so it wouldn’t be a surprise if he keeps his place in the United first-team.
Marouane Fellaini will start on Mourinho’s bench and might come on to make an impact in the second half if required.
Attack
The Man United front three will be comprised of Anthony Martial, Romelu Lukaku and Jesse Lingard. They will all look to improve and hope to be a significant threat in the attacking third of the pitch. Martial has enjoyed a decent spell before the international break, but it seems like his goals have dried up. Lukaku needs to step up and register his name on the scoresheet on Wednesday especially after his match-saving contributions away at Southampton last weekend.
Both Marcus Rashford and Alexis Sanchez won’t feature this week due to injuries, but Juan Mata will be available on the United bench.
