Rangers will have the chance to avenge the defeat of the League Cup semi-final when they take on Aberdeen at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership. The Dons are coming on the back of a loss against Celtic in the final and Dereck McInnes’ side would undoubtedly be deflated.
The Gers, on the other hand, are flying high and currently top the table after their hard-fought and a slightly lucky win against Hearts of Midlothian. They have found good momentum, and the fact that they are back at Ibrox means that nothing less than three points would be expected out of them.
Team News
Scott Arfield got a red card when he made an unwanted challenge in trying to score a goal against Hearts. He is suspended for this tie. Borna Barisic is back in training, but there still might be some time before he sees some action in the first team. Jamie Murphy and Graham Dorrans are long-term absentees. Ryan Kent is yet to recover from his hamstring injury.

Defence
Allan Mcgregor is a nailed on starter in goal. We expect Joe Worrall to make a comeback in the starting eleven after he sat out the weekend tie. Connor Goldson should continue in the heart of the defence along with him. Down the left, Jon Flanagan should once again be back in the starting eleven as Barisic is still recovering from his injury. Captain James Tavernier will reprise his usual role in the right back position where he would look to move forward at every opportunity.
Midfield
Ryan Jack should start in the defensive midfield position, and his job would be to shield the back four. With Scott Arfield out due to suspension, we believe Andy Halliday should get a chance in midfield as more often than not he has been filling in as a left back. Ovie Ejaria should be the other man to complete the midfield three.
Attack
Eros Grezda seems to be getting into his groove, but with this midweek fixture, Gerrard might go in with Glenn Middleton as he would be relatively fresh. The former Norwich City winger should start down the left. Daniel Candeias has been impressive with his work rate and has been a significant threat while going forward. The Portuguese should start down the right.
Alfredo Morelos has been playing a lot of football, and it’s going to be a tough call for Gerrard on whether to give him a breather in this midweek tie and play Kyle Lafferty. However, given the quality of the opponent and the fact that the team would be keen on revenge after the semi-final defeat, the gaffer might once again go in with the Colombian up front.
