It was a dramatic end to an epic match in the Premier League at Anfield last night as Liverpool managed to defeat Everton in the Merseyside derby with what was almost the final touch on the ball. Substitute Divock Origi nudged the loose ball into the back of the net from close range in the last minute of stoppage time as a rare defensive error from Jordan Pickford saw the Toffees go down by 1-0 in a match that looked destined to end in a draw.
Marco Silva’s men, however, will have to recover quickly from their shock loss at the hands of Liverpool as they have another tough test coming up in the form of Newcastle United. The Toffees displayed resilience and integrity on the pitch in their last outing, and their fans would love to see a repetition of that performance in the next fixture as well.
Rafa Benitez’s men are also coming off a defeat against West Ham United in their own backyard and would look to bag maximum points from their match against Everton. All in all, it is going to be a tough encounter for the Toffees when they take on the Magpies at Goodison Park.
Team News
Marco Silva has a fully fit squad at his disposal ahead of the crucial match, and it should come as a relief for the Portuguese mastermind. He will need his side to regroup and show that they are second to none as they need to bag maximum points from their match against Newcastle in the midweek encounter.
Goalkeeper
The English number one made a massive error in judgement as he let the ball bounce back off the crossbar into play when he should have simply pushed it out for a corner. This led to Everton losing all three points from the match against Liverpool. However, he is still one of the best goalkeepers in England, and it should not be a hard decision for Silva to start with him in goal against the Magpies.
Defence
The Toffees’ defence, led by Yerry Mina and Michael Keane, fought valiantly against the might of their Merseyside rivals and they will need to do the same when they take on the Tyneside club in the next match. Seamus Coleman and Lucas Digne will put in their shifts from the right back and left back positions respectively.
Midfield
Idrissa Gana Gueye and Andre Gomes will start in the central midfield, giving depth to the Toffees midfield as they would look to build the play from the back. Bernard, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Theo Walcott will start ahead of them to take up the attacking positions to make life as difficult as possible for the Newcastle defence.
Attack
Richarlison will lead the line for the Toffees once again. The Brazilian has not scored a goal in the last three matches and would surely look to end this mini drought when he takes on Rafa Benitez’s side at home.
Predicted Formation: 4-2-3-1
