Arsenal faced off against their arch-rivals, Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates Stadium earlier this afternoon hoping to continue their recent good run of form in the Premier League. Spurs made a slow start to the game and gave away a penalty in the 10th minute which Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang converted from the spot. However, Mauricio Pochettino’s men came up with a quick response and scored the equaliser at the half-hour mark through Eric Dier’s header. They completed the turn around in the 34th minute when Harry Kane converted a spot-kick to give Tottenham a narrow lead at half-time.
It was Arsenal who took the initiative in the second half and scored the equaliser through Aubameyang’s clinical finish from long range. Alexandre Lacazette came off the bench to register a goal in the 74th minute. Lucas Torreira put the icing on the cake for the Gunners when he found the back of the net just three minutes later to secure a well-deserved 4-2 win for Arsenal on the day.
Let’s shed some light on how each Tottenham player fared during the encounter against the Gunners.
GK: Hugo Lloris – 5/10
The French keeper made some excellent saves during the game but ended up conceding four goals on the day which would disappoint him.
RB: Serge Aurier – 5/10
The Tottenham right-back was hardly a threat going forward and was caught out defensively as well in a couple of occasions during the match.
CB: Jan Vertonghen – 4/10
It was not the best day out for the Belgian international. He failed to cope with the threat of Aubemeyang which ultimately cost his team in the end. Vertonghen was given his marching orders just before full-time which summed up his day.
CB: Juan Foyth – 5.5/10
The youngster struggled against the pace of Aubemeyang and was not able to close down Lacazette in the lead up to Arsenal’s third goal.
LB: Ben Davies – 5.5/10
He found life tough when up against Hector Bellerin as the Spaniard won all the 50-50 battles down that flank.
CM: Eric Dier – 6/10
The Englishman worked hard for his team and scored the equaliser in the first half. However, his performance levels declined in the second half as he failed to cope with the pace of the contest.
CM: Moussa Sissoko – 5/10
A poor showing from the French speedster as he failed to get a foothold in the game and was caught ball-watching at times.
RM: Dele Alli – 5/10
The Englishman didn’t do enough going forward and got caught out in the heat of the derby. He will be hoping for better days in a Tottenham shirt.
CAM: Christian Eriksen – 6/10
The Dutchman tried his best to create chances for the front players but lacked the cutting edge in the final third of the pitch.
LM: Heung-Min Son – 6.5/10
The South-Korean earned the all-important penalty in the first half and was Tottenham’s biggest threat in the opposition half.
ST: Harry Kane – 5.5/10
The Tottenham talisman converted from the spot but didn’t do much else in the game.
Substitutes:
RM: Lucas Moura – 5/10
He hardly troubled the Gunners going forward.
LM: Danny Rose – N/A
The Englishman did not have enough time to make an impression in the encounter.
CM: Harry Winks – 5/10
He came off the bench to provide some fresh legs in midfield.
