According to a recent report by Corriere dello Sport, Inter Milan forward Mauro Icardi is not eager to make a switch to Real Madrid amidst recent speculation (Express) also linking him with a move to Chelsea. It is understood that the Pensioners manager Maurizio Sarri is keen on securing the services of the Argentine goal-getter as he looks to recruit some attacking reinforcements when the transfer window reopens in January.
Chelsea’s Recent Struggles In Front Of Goal
The West London outfit had made a strong start to their Premier League campaign but was beaten for the first time last weekend when Tottenham Hotspur secured a comfortable 3-1 victory over them at Wembley Stadium. One of the main problems for Sarri at Stamford Bridge has been the lack of quality in the attacking third of the pitch.
Both Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud have flattered to deceive with their performances this season as they have struggled to find the back of the net on a consistent basis. The performance of the strikers have come under a lot of criticism from the media and fans alike. Hence, the Blues are in dire need of a forward like Icardi who can go in and start scoring goals from the get-go.
Icardi’s Remarkable Form For Inter Milan
Icardi has already put in some outstanding displays for the Milan-based outfit during the course of this campaign which has not gone unnoticed by other clubs.
The 25-year-old striker managed to register 29 goals in 36 matches for Milan last season, and it seems like he has carried the same form into this campaign as he has already scored ten goals and provided two assists in 15 matches for Inter across multiple competitions.
What Will The Argentine Forward Bring To Stamford Bridge?
The Argentine talent is a proven goal-scorer at the highest level and has built a reputation of being a lethal finisher in front of the opposition goal. Icardi is quite quick and agile on the ball and knows how to dribble past his marker to wreak havoc inside the opposition half. The potential acquisition of his talents would undoubtedly bolster Sarri’s attacking options at Stamford Bridge and should also add more competition for places within the Pensioners squad.
Should The Pensioners Move In For Him?
Chelsea should do everything in their power to land him during the January transfer window as he could be the difference between them mounting a realistic title challenge or missing out on a top 4 place this season.
