Manchester City are on cloud nine in both the Premier League and Champions League and are decimating every opposition that is coming their way. Their win away from home against Lyon confirmed their place in the round of 16 for this season’s Champions League competition, and they are also on the top of the table in the domestic front.
However, not everything is looking good for the reigning Premier League champions as the Citizens might lose one of their best young talents in the form of Brahim Diaz, with the Spaniard set to leave the club when his contract expires in January. According to Marca, the 19-year-old is frustrated with the lack of playing time at the Etihad Stadium and is ready to leave the club to return to Spain and join Real Madrid.
The player has been considered as one of the future stars for the Citizens alongside English youngster Phil Foden, who has also looked exceptional in whatever limited time he has got on the pitch for the current Premier League holders. However, with players like David Silva, Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan performing consistently for the Citizens, Diaz has fallen down the pecking order and is set to make a move to the Spanish capital in January after denying a contract extension with Manchester City.
As per the report, the terms have been agreed between the player and the Galacticos, who are in trouble in the La Liga in the current situation and are looking to strengthen their midfield. However, as far as City is concerned, they should not let their young midfield ace leave so early and tie him down with a new contract.
With players like David Silva and Fernandinho edging towards the end of their career, it is time for the Citizens to bring in younger players into the squad and nurture them to become the stars of the future. Diaz has all the talent required to become a mainstay in the City midfield, and it would be a wrong decision on Pep Guardiola’s part to let him leave in January.
Manchester City, in the past, have already committed the mistake of letting their young and talented players leave the Etihad Stadium, the latest example being Jadon Sancho. The brilliant winger has been one of the stars of the show and is regularly performing for the German side Borussia Dortmund, helping them reach the top of the league table in the Bundesliga this season. He was also considered as a future star at Manchester City but left due to lack of playing time and the same thing might happen in the case of Brahim Diaz as well.
It would be wise for the Citizens to sit with the player and tie him down with a new contract. It would help strengthen their squad and keep themselves well-prepared for the future past the departure of stalwarts like David Silva and Fernandinho.
