According to a recent report by the Telegraph, Borussia Dortmund could sell their young playmaker Christian Pulisic for £70m to either Liverpool or Chelsea as long as the transfer takes place at the end of this current campaign. It is understood that the Bundesliga giants are eager to hold on to the United States international until next summer but would be willing to negotiate a transfer in January if a big-money offer comes in for the player.
Pulisic’s current deal at Dortmund is set to expire in the summer of 2020, and Jurgen Klopp’s side could capitalise on the situation by offering him a chance to move to Anfield in the near future. The Liverpool boss is a massive admirer of Pulisic’s talents but will face stiff competition from Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain in pursuit of the Dortmund wonderkid’s services.
The 20-year-old has already put in some eye-catching displays under Lucien Favre during the course of this season. He has featured in 13 matches for Dortmund this term, scoring three goals while creating four assists across multiple competitions.
At the mere age of 20, the Hershey born talent has also earned 23 international caps for the US national team and has nine international goals to his name so far.
What Will Pulisic Add To Klopp’s Team?
Pulisic is a very promising talent who has the potential to become a world-class player in the next few years. The USA international is quite exciting on the ball and can dribble out of tricky situations using his pace and outstanding technical ability. The Dortmund starlet has an eye for a telling pass in the attacking third and can be a match-winner for his team when he is playing at his best.
What Should Be Klopp’s Play Here?
The potential acquisition of Pulisic would undoubtedly bolster Klopp’s attacking options at the Merseyside. Klopp needs a creative force in midfield with Xherdan Shaqiri often being deployed as a playmaker by the German manager.
Adam Lallana has flattered to deceive with some below par performances this season while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is still recovering from his long-term injury. Hence, signing Pulisic would add some much-needed quality to a problem area for the Reds. However, Liverpool needs to strike up a deal early to avoid losing out to either Chelsea or PSG who could potentially offer more money for Pulisic’s talents.
