Wolverhampton Wanderers tasted defeat for the fifth time this season as they lost to Huddersfield Town in their own backyard. Two strikes in each half from Aaron Mooy sealed the victory for the Terriers, while Nuno Espirito Santo’s men made no progress from their current 11th position in the league table.
There were chances to be taken for both the sides, but a rejuvenated Huddersfield squad made sure that nothing went into their goal. On the other hand, the Wolves defence looked shaky in front of the opposition attack and gave away two goals to let their fans down once again.
Mooy struck with a long-range effort in the 6th minute of the match to shock the hosts, from which they were not able to recover throughout the game. The Australian international followed up with another goal in the 74th minute with a brilliantly taken free kick to increase the margin for his side. The scoreline remained 2-0 until the final whistle and Wolves were defeated for the fourth time in their last five matches. Here is how the Wolverhampton Wanderers players were rated from their defeat against Huddersfield Town.
Rui Patricio: 5
A bad day in the office for the Portuguese shot-stopper. Could do nothing to stop the first goal while in case of the second one, his positioning was terrible.
Ryan Bennet: 5
Looked shaky from the word go and was not able to make any significant blocks or interceptions.
Willy Boly: 6
Was positive on occasions but was just not good enough on the day.
Conor Coady: 6
Made a few tackles and interceptions. Looked far from his best though.
Ruben Vinagre: 7
Made a few good runs and looked to create space with his footwork. His efforts, however, proved futile.
Ruben Neves: 5
Looked completely off colour on the night. Could do nothing to lift his side out of trouble. Picked up a yellow card as well.
Joao Moutinho: 4
Probably his worst performance so far this season. Could not make any significant contribution from the middle of the pitch and was dispossessed very easily. Was substituted at halftime.
Matt Doherty: 6
Tried his best to get the ball into the danger area from the flanks but looked far from threatening.
Helder Costa: 6
His efforts were too weak to bring his side back into the match. Made some good moves with his sublime footwork.
Ivan Cavaleiro: 5
Could not make an impression on the match as he was bogged down by the Huddersfield defence. Was substituted at halftime.
Raul Jimenez: 6
Denied a goal from his effort which was kicked off the goalline by Philip Billing. Had a few chances but could not make them count.
Substitutes
Adama Traore: 5
Brought some energy into the match but could not make any impact.
Morgan Gibbs-White: 5
Nothing significant from the youngster after he was brought on at halftime.
Diogo Jota: 4
Came on for Costa and had an excellent opportunity to score a goal but it was saved by Jonas Lossl.
