Reports from the Scottish Sun suggests that Rangers are looking to target Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke once again in the upcoming transfer window. Earlier reports had confirmed that Gerrard tried his luck in bringing the English forward in the summer, but Liverpool kept hold of him.
After not being involved in any of the matches so far, it is likely that Jurgen Klopp would let the striker leave on loan in the winter window and the Gers are said to be firmly in place to secure his signature because of Gerrard’s link at Anfield.
Solanke so far has endured a frustrating spell at the Merseyside as the 21-year-old is not even making it to the matchday squads. With Daniel Sturridge fit and Divock Origi back from loan, Solanke has fallen down the pecking order, and it would be no surprise to see him leave in January.
Rangers, on the other hand, are too heavily dependent on Alfredo Morelos up front and someone like Solanke can ease that burden. With Umar Sadiq failing to come to the party, we believe it is likely that the Nigerian could be sent back to AS Roma as he has been unable to show any promising signs. Sadiq got his big break in the League Cup semi-final against Aberdeen but the youngster bottled his chance, and there seems to be no way back for him at the moment.
With European competitions to also compete in, Morelos looks overworked and someone like Solanke can provide a breath of fresh air to the squad. The English striker has all the ability which is needed from a striker as he is good in the air and has sharp instincts in front of goal and his hold up play is also up to the mark. Apart from that, the 21-year-old is hard working and presses well from the top.
Solanke could be a game changer for Gerrard that could propel the Bears towards the title push. They aren’t doing too poorly right now as they sit just two points off the top of the table. The forward even has an appearance for England at the national level after impressing massively at the youth setup for the Three Lions. All, the youngster needs is a bit of regular game time, and we think he can be a top striker in a few years.
English club like Crystal Palace are also in the reckoning to sign him on loan, so maybe Liverpool might think they would be better off sending him to a team where he can get Premier League experience. But Rangers have an ace in the form of Gerrard, and it would be interesting to see whether the manager would be able to pull a rabbit out of his hat.
