According to a recent report by the Irish Sun, Manchester City are interested in securing the services of Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves. It is understood that the Citizens are set to compete with Liverpool and Juventus in pursuit of the Portuguese talent’s signature.
The Rapid Rise Of Ruben Neves
Since making a move from FC Porto in the summer of 2017, the Portuguese midfield sensation had lit up the EFL Championship with some majestic displays for the Wanderers last season.
The 21-year-old has managed to keep up the same level of performance in the Premier League this term and was even responsible for scoring with a well-executed free-kick which earned his team a point from the opening match of this campaign against Everton.
His incredible contributions for the West Midlands side this season has seen him get rewarded with a place in the Portuguese national squad. Neves has already managed to secure nine international caps for his country at such a young age. The former Dragon Force youth product has featured in 12 matches for Wolves this term, scoring two goals while providing one assist in all competitions.
What Will The Portuguese Talent Bring To The Etihad Stadium?
Neves is an all-around midfielder who has a habit of scoring and creating goals while operating in a holding midfield role. The Portuguese prospect is an excellent distributor of the ball and is not afraid to go long when a front player makes a decent run behind the opposition defence. The Wolves wonderkid packs a lot of power with his shots from distance which makes him a threat from set-pieces as well.
Is He The Right Fit For The Citizens?
The Citizens are still looking for a long-term replacement for Fernandinho who is currently playing well but is in the twilight years of his career. The addition of Neves will undoubtedly add more creativity to the City midfield, and Pep Guardiola could be the ideal manager to get the best out of his talents. The Portuguese youngster has the potential to be one of the greatest midfielders of his generation (and we are not making the claim lightly here), so there would be no better mentor than the City manager to guide him over the next few years.
Guardiola can also leave a lasting legacy at the Etihad Stadium if he can build a team capable of winning silverware over a sustained period which is why Neves would be the perfect acquisition for the Blues of Manchester.
