According to a recent report by the Express, Liverpool have been linked with a move for Genoa forward Krzysztof Piątek following his meteoric rise in Italian football. It is understood that the Reds will face stiff competition from Chelsea in pursuit of the Seria A prospect’s signature.
In a recent interview, the Polish forward shed some light on his plans for the future and said, “I do feel a little like Christopher Columbus,”
“He set out on an adventure from Genoa and the dream of any young player coming here is to use it as the starting point for a step up to a big club.
“If I continue like this, I can reach a top European team.
“I don’t come near him now, but I think one day I can reach the level of Robert Lewandowski.
He went on to add, “My objective is to play in the Champions League. Genoa and President Enrico Preziosi gave me this great chance and the only way to repay them for the faith and investment is with goals.
“I won’t let anyone down.”
His recent words would be encouraging for Jurgen Klopp as the striker has revealed that while he wants to focus on scoring goals for Genoa, he is using the Italian club as a stepping stone for a big move to a top European team in the future and would prefer playing in the UEFA Champions League. Liverpool ticks all the right boxes when it comes to the Polish forward’s plans for the future.
Piatek’s Fantastic Start To This Campaign
The Genoa striker, who has been dubbed as ‘the new Robert Lewandowski’ in recent times, has set the Italian top-flight alight with some fabulous displays during the course of this season. Since his £3.5m switch from Cracovia earlier this year, the Polish sensation has made a name for himself in the Serie A by finding the back of the net 13 times in 13 appearances across multiple competitions. He is currently the leading goal-scorer of the Serie A ahead of the likes of Juventus’ Cristiano Ronaldo which goes on to show how well he has performed this season.
Why The Reds Should Make A Move For Him?
Piatek has a habit of finding space and often takes up dangerous positions to score inside the opposition penalty box. He is also a real threat in the air and has a good leap in him. The Polish centre-forward is not only known for his aerial prowess but also his pace up top which makes him an ideal target man for Genoa.
Piatek is often clever with his movement and has taken his chances well in front of goal during this campaign. However, the jury is still out on whether he is merely going through a purple patch or if he can continue to score goals on a regular basis at the top level over a prolonged period.
Klopp will do well to bring him to Anfield as he would be a perfect back-up to Roberto Firmino, who has made a slow start to this campaign.
