According to a recent report by Football.London, Napoli are willing to secure the services of David Ospina on a permanent transfer from Arsenal. The Colombian international’s father had recently revealed that the Italian outfit wants to retain Ospina even though he has still not made 30 appearances for the club. The Gunners negotiated a clause with Napoli stating that if the goalie takes part in 30 matches, then there would be an obligation for Carlo Ancelotti’s side to sign him permanently.
However, it seems like the Naples based club has already seen enough from the South-American shot-stopper to turn his loan deal into a permanent move. In a recent interview, Hernan Ospina shed some light on his son’s future and said, “Yes, I hear it said here by all the media,”
“The Napoli wants to keep it regardless of the 30 games.
“He is happy, has a good contract, is doing very well with the whole team and is in one of the best clubs in Italy Scudetto.
“In Italy there is a great team like Juventus that keeps Napoli behind, but I think that with the season that are playing the Azzurri deserves the first place, David calls me before every game.
“He is a very professional and dedicated to his job. It is a person who usually shares everything with us parents, is a man who sacrifices himself for his team, is a great boy and is focused on giving his best for Naples and his national team.
“He is living a great moment. We believe it can become one of the best goalkeepers in the world, this is our hope.”
The Colombian talent had already put in some match-winning performances for the Serie A outfit during this campaign which includes a resolute display against Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League when he managed to earn a rare clean sheet at home while up against one of the best attacks in European football.
The 30-year-old has featured in 11 matches for Napoli this season, conceding 14 goals while keeping just three clean sheets in all competitions. He needs to improve on that record if Ancelotti’s team are to mount a realistic title challenge this season.
Unai Emery chose to bring Bernd Leno in to replace Ospina in goal for the Gunners last summer. However, the German goalie has since managed to establish himself as a first-team starter while Petr Cech plays second-fiddle to him on the bench. There is no doubt that the North Londoners are in no need of Ospina’s services at this moment so letting him leave would be an ideal solution for all parties.
