According to a recent report by the Mirror, Liverpool are preparing to part ways with Fabinho to fund a potential move for Borussia Dortmund playmaker Christian Pulisic. It is understood that the Bundesliga giants could sell the USA prospect for a fee in the region of £70m. However, Jurgen Klopp’s side will face stiff competition from their London rivals, Chelsea in pursuit of Pulisic’s signature.
The 20-year-old has already put in some eye-catching displays at Westfalenstadion during this campaign which has not gone unnoticed by other clubs. He was also the best player on the pitch for the Americans in their 3-0 defeat to England at the Wembley Stadium. The Liverpool boss is eager to seal a move for the Bundesliga ace following his meteoric rise in German football.
The Reds might choose to sell Fabinho so that they can generate the funds to land Pulisic. The Brazilian has found it hard to adapt to the physicality and high intensity of the Premier League. Despite putting in some commanding displays in midfield, the 25-year-old has not been able to find consistency this season after making a £43.7m switch from AS Monaco last summer.
Pulisic is an exceptional talent who has the potential to become a world-class player in the near future. The USA international is excellent on the ball and can dribble out of tight spaces using his speed and exceptional technical ability. The Dortmund wonderkid has an eye for a killer pass in the final third and can also contribute by chipping in with a goal or two when his teammates need him to deliver in high-profile situations.
The addition of Pulisic would undoubtedly bolster Klopp’s attacking options at Anfield. Liverpool are in dire need of a creative force in midfield with Xherdan Shaqiri currently the only reliable option for the Reds manager to take up that role.
Adam Lallana has flattered to deceive with his performances this season while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is still recovering from his long-term injury. Hence, bringing in Pulisic will add some much-needed quality to an area where the Merseyside club needs to improve if they are to compete for the league title.
However, despite all that, parting ways with Fabinho this early into his Anfield career to fund a move for Pulisic doesn’t make sense as he needs to be given some time to prove his worth in England. Hence, Klopp needs to find a way to generate the funds for Pulisic by selling some of his other assets as the Brazilian is still an integral part of his midfield and adds defensive stability at the centre of the pitch unlike no other player in the Liverpool squad.
