Everton have had a decent start to their Premier League campaign under their current manager Marco Silva, winning five of their twelve matches so far. The Toffees are looking to keep up their good performance and finish the season among the top six or seven teams.
The Merseyside club have done well in almost every department, but it is their defence that has really performed brilliantly so far this season. The likes of Michael Keane, Yerry Mina and Kurt Zouma have kept their side out of harm’s way and have stabilised the backline, which looked shaky last season.
However, recent reports are indicating towards the fact that the club is willing to add more players to their side in January, one of them being the Manchester United ace Marcos Rojo. The player has not been in the best of forms in the last few seasons and has missed a chunk of playing time due to injuries.
Reportedly, the Red Devils are willing to let him leave in January and Everton are ready to pounce on the opportunity to get him to Goodison Park. However, given the injury track record of the Argentine’s brief career with Manchester United, it might not be the best decision for Marcos Silva to bring the player into the side.
Undoubtedly, Rojo is an excellent defender and has the pedigree to play for any of the best clubs in Europe, but he is also very prone to injuries and would not be able to play day-in-day-out for the Toffees. Everton have a long season ahead of them and investing in someone like Rojo might not prove to be the wisest of decisions for them.
Besides, they already have the likes of Zouma, Keane and Mina, who are performing superbly for the club so far. Rojo can come in as a backup, but Silva already has an experienced player in the form of Phil Jagielka sitting on the bench. So bringing in another defender is not the best idea for them right now.
Everton have conceded only 15 goals so far this season, putting them up as the sixth meanest defence in the Premier League. This shows how well the defence has performed and there is no need to change things around. Marco Silva needs to worry about his attack instead, with Theo Walcott, Calvert Lewin and Cenk Tosun not firing this season so far. With Richarlison having to play out of position as a striker, Everton needs to invest in a top quality forward rather than the Manchester United defensive ace.
