According to a recent report by the Metro, Barcelona chief Pep Segura has disclosed that the club will not part ways with Ousmane Dembele after he sat down with the forward’s representatives. The French talent was recently linked with a big-money switch to Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp wanted to bolster his attacking options to help his players mount a realistic title challenge in the Premier League this season.
In a recent interview, Segura addressed Dembele’s future and said, ‘There is no problem with Dembele,’
‘Yes, we had a meeting, just like yesterday I met with three other representatives, but it’s normal, it’s part of my job, they’re natural things.
‘Dembele is very young and has never had to make an effort like the one he is doing now to adapt to Barca’s game.
‘We recognise that it is hard for him and he also recognises it, but we’re working to change this situation as quickly as possible.’
Segura’s recent comments make it clear that the Blaugrana are not willing to sell him during the winter transfer period but would instead help him settle into life in Catalunya. This recent development will be a massive blow for Klopp’s chances of landing the player.
What Makes Dembele So Good?
The 21-year-old speedster has featured in 15 matches for the Catalans this term, finding the back of the net six times while creating two assists across multiple competitions. The Barca wonderkid has also secured 20 international caps for the French national team and has two goals to his name for his homeland thus far.
The French forward has excellent pace and is not afraid to take on his marker as he is a fantastic dribbler with the ball at his feet. Dembele has the speed to cause problems for any defender which makes him a menace to deal with. However, he is still quite raw and needs to be nurtured into a top player over the next few years.
Barca Not Selling Dembele: Big Blow For Liverpool?
The potential addition of Dembele would have undoubtedly brought a lot of quality to the Liverpool attack so Barca’s recent stance will be a bitter pill to swallow for Klopp’s team. The Reds will now have to look somewhere else in search of a world-class forward.
